Succulent plants are a popular choice to keep in your home. Among the succulent plants, a popular one is Kalanchoe. It is characterised by being low- maintenance and having bright flowers. It is usually the first choice of gardeners as it is a low-effort plant. It grows in warm regions like Madagascar. With minimal effort, the plant can easily enhance the visual appeal of any space. If given proper light, water, and care, one can easily grow a Kalanchoe plant.

Understanding Light and Placement

While growing a Kalanchoe plant, it is important to provide the plant with the right amount of light. The plant prefers growing in bright and indirect sunlight. This allows the plant to maintain its shape and encourages blooming. It is advisable to place the pot of the plant near an east or south-facing window. This helps the plant to receive the appropriate filtered light. It is also important to note that Kalnchoe does not receive less light than required, as it can result in leggy growth and can scorch the leaves.

Watering the Right Way

Being a succulent, the plant is known for storing water in its fleshy leaves. This implies that it does not require extensive watering. An important tip is to water the plant only when the soil is completely dry. One should strictly avoid overwatering, as the roots can rot because of extra watering. Watering Kalanchoe every 1-2 weeks during the growing period of the plant is appropriate.

Soil, Temperature, and Environment

The soil should ideally be well-draining. Such a soil ensures that water does not accumulate around the roots. The ideal temperature should be between 15 degrees and 29 degree celsius and prefers indoor humidity. The plant should not be kept in first or overly damp conditions.

Feeding and Maintenance

Although the plant does not require much feeding, occasional fertilization helps encourage the plant's growth. Feeding should be done in the spring and summer seasons, as it is the growing season of the plant. A water- soluble fertilizer is perfect and should be used once a month. Frequent pruning is also necessary for the plant.

Encouraging Blooms and Propagation

Kalanchoe plant requires a period of darkness (12-14 hours for a few weeks). This helps in the flowering of the plant. If given a period of darkness, then the plant feels like it is being provided its natural cycle, which can result in bud formation. Propagation of Kalanchoe is an easy task. It can be done through leaf or stem cuttings.

Conclusion

Kalanchoe is quite a rewarding plant as it does not require much effort and is also beautiful. If it recives appropriate amount of light, water, and proper care, then you would easily grow this in your garden. It can either be placed on a windowsill or kept outdoors.
