Sedum Plant, also known as stonecrops by people, are low-maintenance plants that are quite popular for their star-shaped flowers. These plants are perfect for people who are new to gardening and do not have a lot of experience. There are a number of different conditions in which a stonecrop sedum can thrive and turn your garden into a magical and enchanting space. This guide will tell you how you can easily grow these stunning flowers.

Choosing the correct Sedum variety

There are a number of different kinds of Sedum that you can grow, from ground-hugging to upright. Stonecrop Sedum varieties are quite popular in rock gardens and ground covers, whereas taller varieties like the Autumn Joy Sedum are perfect for their dramatic effect.

Planting Location and Soil

Sedums are quite fond of sunlight, which means that you need to choose a spot that receives around 6 hours of daily sunlight. Since the plant does not like soggy roots, you should get well-draining soil, which is why you can opt for sandy or loamy soil.

Watering and Care

Keep watering your plant until the roots are perfectly established, and then you can reduce watering, as the plant is resistant to drought. Overwatering is one of the most common errors people make while growing Sedums, which is why you should make sure that the soil is dry between two waterings.

Pruning and Maintenance

As we have already mentioned, Sedums do not require a lot of care. You should only remove the dead stems from the plant in early spring to encourage new growth. For taller kinds, such as Autumn Joy Sedum, you should cut the plant in early summer, as it motivates bushier growth and prevents flopping.

With magnificent blooms and attractive foliage, Sedums can definitely be one of the highlights of your garden that do not require a lot of effort.
