During the time of the Roman Empire, Narcissus bulbs were traded. These bulbs were then planted across Europe and the Middle East. The people of the Roman Empire admired these flowers because they were extremely beautiful. They used these flowers to decorate their homes and villas. After this, during the medieval period, people grew these flowers because they believed the flowers had medicinal qualities and can treat wounds and other illnesses.

With time, the Narcissus flower gained different meanings. In Europe, it got associated with renewal and resurrection. It was popularly used during Eastern celebrations.

In Wales, Daffodils became a national symbol. China grows a different species of this flower, ‘Narcissus Tazetta’, during the Chinese New Year because it symbolises prosperity and good fortune. In Japan, the flower is known by the name ‘Suisen” and represents simplicity and purity.
